Get ready! As we have teamed up with our bridal experts here in Perth, Western Australia to give you all the best wedding dress shopping tips. Follow our 10 steps to have a successful and flawless bridal shopping experience.
1. Set a Budget
When planning your wedding you will need to finance the amount of money you spend in different aspects of your wedding, especially your dress. It is always a great idea to set yourself a budget or range when looking for your dress. This prevents dissapointment and heartache, as you should never try a dress on that you cannot afford as you don’t want to fall in love with a dress that you just cannot afford.
2. Book your Bridal Appointment
First and foremost most, a majority of bridal boutiques require brides to book an appointment prior to attending the store. So do some research, find out which stores you want to visit and book appointments for numerous stores within the same week or weekend. Get organised! As you can usually book bridal appointments months in advance.
Always keep in mind that if you dress needs to be ordered in or altered this can take 4 – 6 months. However, here at Legends Bridal we do sell straight off the rack perfect for any last minute needs. As well as have an in-house alterations team.

3. Bring Inspiration Photos
A great idea before coming in for your bridal appointment, is to do some research. This could be in the form of creating a Pinterest board of the styles that interest you or looking for inspiration on social media sites such as Instagram.
The great thing about these inspirational images is that you can show them to your bridal stylist during your appointment, this will help them to pick out styles and colours that you will be interested in.
4. Choose Your Bride Tribe Wisely
It is so important to choose your bride tribe wisely, make sure you bring people who are supportive, honest and encouraging. Essentially we recommend bringing 1-4 people to your appointment as this won’t overload you with opinions and ideas. Pick those who you know will help you choose your dream dress, don’t invite those who will make you uncomfortable.
If your loved ones are unable to make your appointment and live in a different state or country we are more than happy for you to FaceTime your loved ones, to help you with your dress journey and be there with you.
5. Bring Questions for your stylist
It is a great idea to compile a list of questions for your bridal stylist. These questions could include; Is lay-by offered? How long do alterations take? How far in advance should I buy bridesmaid dresses?

6. Bring The Proper Undergarments / Shoes
We highly recommend our brides to be to wear nude underwear and bring a strapless bra, however don’t be too worried if you don’t have a strapless bra – as most gowns you can go bra-less, as wedding dresses offer a lot more support than regular clothing does.
Shoe’s are not so important as most brides pick their shoes out after they have found their dress. Unless you are extremely tall, dresses are usually hemmed shorter as they offer a lot of length allowing for you to choose from a wide range of shoes.
7. Positive Attitude
The best things you can bring to your wedding dress shopping experience is a positive mind frame and perspective, about both shopping and yourself. Shopping can be emotionally draining especially if you aren’t feeling confident or happy.
So make sure the people you bring with you can help keep you positive and openminded. It is also important to allow yourself to be open minded with sizing when trying wedding dresses on. Due to the fabrics, styles and brands of wedding dresses Perth they vary in sizes. So do not be disheartened when your bridal consultant puts you in a size 14 when in normal clothing you are a 10 – this is very normal. Sizing is just a number.
8. Be Open minded
You may walk into the store and know exactly what style and colour you want because of course you did your research! But don’t forget to be open minded as your bridal expert has years of experience in dressing brides and may make you try something on that is completely out of your comfort zone and you never know that may be THE DRESS!
9. Appointment Dont's
Trying on wedding dresses is a lot of fun! However, remember not to wear make-up or fake tan to your appointment as this can damage the dresses.
If you are wanting to take photos of the dresses you are trying on make sure you ask your bridal stylist prior to pulling out your phone and snapping photos, as this is something we at Legends Bridal and numerous other stores do not allow. The no photo taking rule is in place for numerous reasons, as it has become disheartening for small local businesses to spend hours serving a bride to then see them go home and buy a cheaper version or maker their own copy. Once you have paid for the dress in full, we are happy for you to take as many photos as you wish – as the dress is now yours.
Note: If a family member or close friend cannot make your appointment we are more then happy to join you through FaceTime.
*Always remember to read the bridal boutiques terms and conditions.
10. Have fun!
Don’t forget to enjoy the moment and have fun, get ready to say YES TO THE DRESS!
